Thanksgiving Sweetness

Evan and I had so much to be thankful for this year. We purchased our first home, began planning our wedding, witnessed so many of our close friends get engaged, and we adopted a new dog… easily, this has been one of the best years of my life. To celebrate all of the wonderful things that have happened, we decided to step up to the plate and host our families (and two great friends) for Thanksgiving this year… our first time hosting! I had planned on making a smorgasbord of sweets for the week that our fams were here but I only got around to making two desserts for the big day. I made a hazelnut tart that was divine and a pumpkin cheesecake that was quite scrumptious, all quirkiness aside (I’ll explain soon). Our group of 10 polished off the hazelnut tart in a matter of 72 hours. When I made the cheesecake, my cream cheese must not have been at room temp because it simply did not blend. I ended up with bits of cream cheese throughout and a HUGE crack down the middle. It didn’t seem to affect the flavor which was good, but it also did not achieve my vision of perfect Thanksgiving desserts…which was bad. Thanks to all who ate it despite it’s funky appearance. I also learned through the blogosphere that baking cheesecake in a water bath prevents cracking and promotes a moist, evenly cooked cheesecake. Live and learn. My next cheesecake will be wonderful, I just know it! More pics on the whole spread to come. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
